El Dorado Wine Country Casual Dining Favorites
The Forester Pub & Grill has a great menu of pub style food along with two German items. Housed in a cozy pub style building with additional patio seating, it is a welcome addition to the El Dorado Wine Country. The beers on tap include something for every taste like Deschutes IPA, Sierra Nevada, Warsteiner Pilsner, Longboard Lager, Blue Moon, or even Angry Orchard Hard Cider. The wine list is mostly El Dorado Region wines. The menu includes entrees like Fish & Chips, Calamari Steak, Beef Steaks, Chicken Parmigiana, Pot Roast, Beef Stroganoff, Chicken & Dumplings, Meatloaf, Wienerschnitzel, Jaegerschnitzel, Shepards Pie, London Porter Beef Stew, well you get the idea! They also have burgers and sandwiches including specialties like Tuna Melt, Hot Meat Loaf, Grilled Fish, Beef Dip, Patty Melt or select Tacos. Located at 4110 Carson Rd. in Camino. Log Cabin Café is part of the Sierra Banquet Center which is a beautiful event location housed in a new log cabin building. The café is open when it is not being used for the center's events. This little discovery is great because it is just off highway 50 and allows you to be surrounded by stunning gardens or the beautiful vaulted ceiling interior as you dine. You can enjoy a leisurely meal attended to by the friendly staff. Everything on the menu is fresh and well presented. The squash soup is excellent and even a side salad of mixed greens, blue cheese, and nuts was great. Dinners consist of weekly specials and lunch also has specials like open face tri-tip sandwich. The Black Forest Ham sandwich was just perfect. You must call ahead to determine if they are open. Open Thur thru Sun for lunch. Thur thru Sat. for dinner. Located at 3220 Ponderado Rd. in Camino. 530-644-0345 Website here.
The Pub At Fairplay is a welcome addition to the Fairplay area of El Dorado Wine Country because it is centrally located, casual and friendly, and has really good pub style food. Bottom line is that I really like this place. The overall lack of restaurants in Fairplay has been a bit of a challenge for a long time and this wonderful find at the corner of Fairplay and Perry Creek Roads definitely fills a need. The food is real pub grub with a few twists and some unusual items. I could not resist the Scotch Egg for an appetizer and it was just yummy. Lots of pub comfort items fill the menu like a Pub Schnitzel or Meatloaf Sandwich, Beef Pastie, Bangers & Mash, Beef & Mushroom Pie, and Chicken Curry along with pizza, burgers, salad choices, various sandwiches and even some breakfast items for weekends. Located at 7915 Fairplay Road in Somerset. 530-620-1500 Open 11am to 11pm Mon thru Fri and 9am to 11pm on Sat and Sun. Website here.
