The interior features a striking bar and lounge with an adjoining dining area of about equal size. The walls are filled with beautiful photo artwork of historic Placerville. Brick's features a number of craft beers, local wines, and varied cocktail concoctions. The food menu is extensive with selections of small plates, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and entree's. California Kitchen is a casual breakfast, lunch, and dinner establishment with an upscale ambience, decor, service, and delicious food. This is not your typical diner "joint." The interior is spacious and beautifully appointed. The host or hostess greets you at the entrance with a friendly smile and shows you to your table. The service is professional and personable; you are special. The food is simply outstanding and beautifully presented. You can get all the breakfast favorites, soups, salads, along with a big variety of sandwiches and burgers. But, it is the quality of the food, the presentation, and the service that makes it so good. I had a Patty Melt that was to die for with a side of potato salad with a touch of vinegar in it that was something special. My partner had a Cobb Salad that was what a real Cobb Salad should be. The more recently added dinner menu includes steaks, scampi, Chicken Marsala, Lamb Chops, ribs, and Pork Tenderloins along with a big line up of starters. They also have a full bar. Casa Ramos Cantina is a big Mexican restaurant that has maintained good quality and service over the years. There are 12 locations, but it is still family owned and provides a place for families and even large groups to get solid California style Mexican food in a fun environment. The menu is huge and has all the usual favorites plus many tasty additions that include items like Seafood Molcajeta stew, Borrego braised lamb shanks, Chicken en Mole, Mahi Mahi Tacos, or Tamales Espinaca filled with spinach and feta. CT European Cafe & Grill (a.k.a. Crepe Town) is a unique European style café that allows patrons to dine at a leisurely pace and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee along with a great meal. The interior of the Shingle Springs location, just off the 50 freeway, is beautifully appointed, offering both a friendly café bar serving beer and wine as well as dining room seating. The name gives away the specialty of the house which is the crepes stuffed with both savory and sweet fillings. The crepe menu includes creations like Tuscan Turkey Breast or Beef Burgundy and you can follow that with sweet treats like Traditional Apricot or Raspberry Delight. Durango's Bar And Grill is a popular Mexican restaurant that is located conveniently just off Highway 50 on Placerville Drive. It is pretty large in size and is good for larger parties of people. They have a full bar stocked with house wines, various bottled beers with a strong selection of Mexican offerings, as well as tequila specialties and tropical delights. The Mexican food menu is nothing short of huge and includes combos of all kinds and virtually every Mexican dish you can think of. Specialties include Carne Adobada, Carne Asada, Chile Colorado, Enchilada selections, Flautas, Machaca, various Burritos, and a number of lunch selections. Golden Dragon Restaurant is consistently rated by the locals as one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. The restaurant has plenty of seating space and has a large room available for groups and parties. Service is efficient and friendly. There are over thirty lunch special combos that are reasonably priced. The menu is extensive and includes all of the usual favorites along with many really outstanding specialties including Seafood Asparagus, Pineapple Scallop & Shrimp, Cherries Chicken, Sizzling Happy Family, Shrimp with Lobster Sauce (one of my favorites), Clay Pot Curry Coconut Chicken, Salt Baked Spare Ribs, Beef with Orange Peel, and a big selection of vegetarian dishes. Grand China Chinese Cuisine is simply one of the best places for Chinese food in the area and offers a beautifully appointed interior, great service, along with really good Chinese food. My family has had dinner here with fourteen people and ordered a lot of different dishes. Every dish was delivered quickly, by a courteous and attentive staff, and was well presented. The test of a good Chinese restaurant is that each dish have a distinct presentation and flavor. Grand China succeeds on both counts. Heyday Cafe' is one of the most popular restaurants in Historic Old Town Placerville. The reasons are simple. They have a fun and creative menu with lots of choices, the food quality is really good, service and atmosphere is good, and the wine list is extensive with local wines featured in all categories. OK, it can get crowded at peak times, but it is worth it and they take reservations.. Salads feature items like Chicken Curry With Diced Apples and Roasted Butternut Squash on Spinach with Bacon or you can pick a pizza like Bacon Bleu or Truffle Chicken. Placerville Brewing Company is a popular local hangout that has a good food menu and a constantly changing line-up of brews made on site. It is the only brew pub restaurant in Placerville. They brew a large number of good beers that range from strong and hoppy to mild and malty. They brew ales, IPA, porter, fruit flavored specialty beers, and a barley wine. The menu is large and includes plenty of appetizers like Coconut Shrimp, Buffalo Wings, Smoked Sausages, and onion rings to eat while drinking brews. The menu also includes build your own burgers and sandwiches like Pulled Pork, Philly Cheese, French Dip, BBQ Trip Tip, and Smoked Sausage. And, yes, they do have great Fish & Chips. Placerville Public House is a true pub environment with a great menu, frequent live entertainment, and a big line up of beers in bottles and on tap. Their tap beer rotation is a large selection including brands like Cool Beer Werks, Bear Republic, MRAZ, Auburn Ale House and Deschuttes. They also have hard cider on tap. In addition, they offer cans a bottles that even include iconic brands like Bud, Olympia, and Miller as well as more hard cider. The menu has lots of great pub style food offerings including items like Meat Ball Sub, Shrimp Poor Boy, Pollo Verde Tacos, Wurst Platter or Brew Masters Pie. Poverty Flats is a really good restaurant that is just off the beaten path a little up on Pleasant Valley Road on the way to El Dorado Wine Country. It is a hidden gem. The food is off-the-chart good and the service is great too. The food is generally American style comfort food we all love. On my last visit, I had a dinner called Short Ribs Adobo that was a flavor explosion! Even the vegetable side was amazing. My lovely spouse had a BBQ tri-tip sandwich, real BBQ by the way, that was really good too. They only have one beer on tap, but what a beer! A carefully chosen craft brew that is just terrific. It will be a bit of a drive, but I am determined to get there for breakfast! They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Hours are Mon thru Thurs 8am to 9pm. Fri thru Sun 7am to 9pm. Powell's Steamer Co. & Pub is one of the most popular places to meet for a cool brew or glass of wine in Placerville. Powell's is patterned after the ever popular bar and seafood joints located in and around San Francisco's Fisherman's Warf. It is located right on Placerville's historic Main Street and the beer and wine bar is often populated with locals visiting with friends and joking with the bar tenders and staff. This place has a great deal of local musical entertainment and it is most often free. The live music is usually slanted toward popular jazz and there is no shortage of good jazz talent in this area. They have 24 beers on tap and many of them are outstanding craft brews. As you might expect, the menu consists of seafood cocktails, oysters on the half shell, steamed clams, cioppino, clam chowder, oyster stew, and seafood pastas. Red Hawk Casino Waterfall Buffet is a gambling casino buffet that is best described as a food extravaganza. The seemingly endless variety of food is artfully displayed in well decorated presentations throughout the huge buffet area with little wait at any station. OK, this is buffet food. But, the staff is constantly replenishing the offerings so the food is fresh and tasty. The buffet boasts a complete salad bar, soups, build-your-own baked potato, American favorites, pizza, Mexican favorites, a meat carving station, sausages, fried oysters, shrimp, seafood specialties, and a large selection of Chinese and Asian foods. The Smith Flat House is a very unique restaurant because it is several businesses all housed at the same location. There are three different venues available for events and weddings. In addition to the food service, there is a Center for Health that houses practitioners of innovative styles of treatment. The are basically two options for lunch or dinner. During the warmer months the beautiful Courtyard covered patio is a great place to eat outdoors in the warm evenings. The Cellar is part of an historic mine shaft and the old stone walls create a very cozy environment. The menu uses as many local ingredients as possible and the wine list is all local wineries. Tortilla Flats Cantina is a Mexican restaurant located conveniently on Main St. in Old Town Placerville. One great advantage of Tortilla Flats is their own parking lot adjacent to the restaurant! Tortilla Flats has been a Placerville standard for many years, but changed hands for the better in 2016. The menu has all the traditional Mexican favorites everyone expects plus some interesting appetizers like Ceviche Tostaditas, Mexican Style Grilled Corn, Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno, or Red Chili Chicken Taquitos. The plate choices include items like Apple Hill Carnitas, Veracruz Style Fish, El Rockero Burger, Blackened Shrimp Tacos, Pulled Chicken Enchilada with Green Sauce or the vegetarian Roasted Mushroom Enchilada. The breakfast menu includes scrambles, pancakes, non-egg specialties, an omelet selection, and a tasty Chile Relleno Casserole. The lunch line-up includes sandwiches, burgers, melts, soft tacos, quiche, soups, salads, and a great Chicken Enchilada Casserole. Taste of Europe is a great little find for wonderful food and service tucked away in Old Town Placerville. The service from your hosts, Richard and Lenka, is bright and friendly. The food is, (Are you ready?), Eastern European done right! I know, many of us are not familiar with Eastern European foods, but it is high time we learned. This is where what Americans call "comfort food" came from! The Czech specialties include Schnitzel, Goulash, Chicken Paprikash, and Beef Stroganoff. My lovely spouse had the Jagerschnitzel and enjoyed a wonderful pork schnitzel with perfect Spaetzle. I had the Roasted Pork and it came with heavenly sauerkraut, red cabbage, and dumplings. They also have great potato pancakes and fried cauliflower or Kvetak. Their offerings include local wines from Madrona and a number of good beers, including the world famous Czech beer, Pilsner Urquell. By the way, the entrees include wonderful soup or salad.
